OAK

Oak is a hardwood that is particularly appreciated in cabinetmaking. Extremely hard-wearing, it supports a variety of tainting and texture techniques. The oak used by Maison Philippe Hurel is native French oak from the Senonches and Jupilles forests.

TEXTURED OAK

This effect is a meticulous assembly of veneers layered one after one which are then sanded. This “patterned” oak is characterized by its mesh aspect evocative of the weave of a textile. This is the result of years and years of passionate research to perfect a unique solution.

STAINED OAK

Stained oak is available in mat and satin finish.

LIMED OAK

This is decorative technique which involves hollowing out the soft veins of the oak and applying a coloured wax to contrast or highlight a surface finish. Philippe Hurel offers a wide range of exclusive waxed finishes on brushed and sanded oak which add a definite contemporary touch.

BRUSHED OAK

The smooth texture oak is simply sanded. The brushed oak is lightly textured; this effect is achieved by rubbing in one direction only to reveal the grain of the wood. All of the lacquers (referenced NCS Kromosystem and RAL)can be applied to brushed oak. Brushed oak is available in a mat and satin finish.

GOUGED OAK

Introduced within the "Rouvre" collection in the early 1990s, as a tribute to the mastery of an emblematic cabinetmaker's tool, gouged oak is one of Philippe Hurel signature finish. Utterly handmade, the cabinet maker carves grooves in the raw material to give it relief and depth.

SANDBLASTED OAK

The sandblasting process consists of spraying an abrasive at high pressure on the material to make the hard veins clearly appear by removing the softer parts of the wood. The appearance is therefore very contrasting and plays on the effects of hollows and solid. This technique, which therefore requires thicker sheets of veneer, requires a controlled gesture and all the sensitivity of the expert craftsmen of the Maison Philippe Hurel to obtain a regular and harmonious result. The sanding darkens the color of the oak.
